Top Film Fancy Dress Outfits

The months following Christmas can be gloomy and depressing for most, but with the Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Oscars between January and March (as well as the Sundance Film Festival kicking off mid-January) this time of year is pretty much the post-Christmas, Christmas for film fans.

So if you’re planning a pre-Oscars party or just fancy throwing a bash to shed the winter blues, then here are some great fancy dress ideas for an award winning party.

RoboCop

Whether you’re a diehard fan of Paul Verhoeven’s original 1987 movie or if you’re eagerly anticipating the 2014 reboot, there’s no question that rocking up to a party dressed as Robocop will garner a pretty amazing reaction from your friends.

Many have attempted to recreate the Robocop look using cardboard boxes and excessive amounts of tinfoil, but there are great costumes available to assist with your transformation from an average civilian into to the police cop cyborg.

Ron Burgundy

Movember is over for another year, but here’s another opportunity to sport a most-excellent moustache but without having to go to the lengthy efforts of growing one.

Once you’ve glued your Burgundy-style moustache to your upper lip all that’s left to do is to put on a suit so fine you make Sinatra look like a hobo and wander the party with a glass of scotch (scotchy scotch scotch).

Princess Leia

It’s a classic look, which never goes out of style. It’s true that no movie-based party would be complete without someone believing the force is strong with them and turning up as any well-loved Star Wars character. Admittedly, a Luke Skywalker costume is a little on the boring side, whereas a Darth Vader costume will most definitely give you presence.

However, it’s the Princess Leia outfit from Fancy Dress Ball that seems to stand head and shoulders above the rest. A long white dress and two impressive hair buns are all that are needed to achieve this iconic movie look.

Catwoman

Catwoman remains to be one of the most popular choices for fancy dress parties and thanks to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, you can dress in an outfit that deviates from Michelle’s Pfeiffer’s super tight-fitting shiny number from 92’s Batman Returns (although it’s super easy to clean if someone spills their drink on you).

This is one look that’s relatively simple to achieve by acquiring cat-ears and an appropriately tight-fitting crime-fighting ensemble for a more DIY Costume.

Edward Scissorhands

Admittedly, those scissory hands are going to cause a few problems when it comes to grabbing a drink or brushing your backcombed hair out of your eyes, but that’s not to say Edward Scissorhands isn’t an excellent costume choice.

You can get creative with this costume, especially when it comes to doing your black spikey hair and pale white make up. Although, it’s advisable to do these before putting on your scissor hands…
