2013:
Now You See Me
My all-time-favorite films include How to Steal a Million and The Thomas Crown Affair so I knew I was going to love this heist caper, but it still managed to obliterate my expectations.
Superlative cast, engaging and well-executed plot & extraordinarily well filmed for this type of movie. I would watch this film again right now if I could!
Bonus points – the ending is suitably satisfying and the sequel is already in the works.
About Time
I’m not usually a gushy romcom type but I admit it, this movie made me tear up…
Beautiful performances all round with a wonderful feeling of Britishness – watch this with your significant other or your parents (there’s only one short sex scene) and revel in the happy glow.
The Hunger Games – Catching Fire
I am a Hunger Games fan and when the first movie came out I was pretty disappointed. The combination of bad screen adaption and shaky cam felt very lackluster.
Catching Fire is an incredible improvement. New injections to the cast are impeccable and, with the success of the franchise behind them, they finally have enough money to properly create the dystopian future of Panem.
2014:
The Veronica Mars Movie
Even if I wasn’t a fan of the original show this movie would be mind blowing. In April 2013 over 91 thousand regular people raised $5,702,153 to make this film happen. Veronica Mars could be the future of filmmaking.
UK Release Date: 14th March 2014.
Gone Girl
Bestseller turned star-studded thriller. The casting looks perfect and the book is ripe for adaption. My prediction; this will be a huge hit. The only complication will be dealing with long swathes of internal monologue without getting expositional, can’t wait to see how they deal with it.
UK Release Date: October 2014.
THG-Mockingjay
Part 3 of 4 of the Hunger Games story was filmed alongside Catching Fire, fingers crossed it’ll continue it’s upwards trajectory…
UK Release Date: 21st November 2014.
Godzilla
2013 was Bryan Cranston’s year. Who isn’t curious to see what he does next?! Especially as it involves a giant reptile!
UK Release Date: 16th May 2014.
Into The Woods
You’ll have to wait all year for this, with a scheduled release in the States next December it might even edge into 2015! A modern, musical twist on Grimm’s fairytales to be carried along by Meryl Streep, Chris Pine, Anna Kendrick, Johnny Depp, James Corden and many, many more stars… Will be either a huge success or a massive flop.
UK Release Date: TBC.
