We talk to star of Tulpa, Claudia Gerini.
So, Tulpa. What is it about?
In Tibetan magical Buddhism, the Tulpas are real beings created by meditation and esoteric rituals by the monks . They can be positive entities but sometime things go the wrong and the Tulpas can become terrible demons. It’s something intriguing and scary at the same time.
How was the screening at FrightFest?
One word : Crazy !!! We have had so much fun , the atmosphere was very hot and the FrightFesters are just great people. The film had incredible attention and it quickly becoming clear that they either loved it or hated it. Dividing the audience that much is always great. On top of this, the screening was useful to test what works very well and what needs to be improved . Federico has cut some dialogue and scenes where the film was slowing down a bit. Now I think TULPA is in great shape .
Was the violence and the sex comfortable for you?
I was so involved in playing the character that I didn’t have the chance to think too much. Afterwards when I watched the film completed, I felt a little shocked and honestly I thought my husband was kind of sick.
How is the Italian Film Industry? Can you recommend us some films, directors to watch?
There are so many great directors in my country. Talking about the new generation I think Matteo Garrone is one of the best.
What should we take away from Tulpa?
A lot of fun, which is so important when you watch a film.
Tell us about your role in Labyrinth
I play Marie Cecil, an evil and controversial woman but I don’t want to spoil too much. It’s going to be a big surprise
What was it like to be directed by Christopher Smith?
Chris is so much talented and visionary, he always knows what he wants and he’s able to find the best way for telling you what do to. I wish we can work together again, hopefully on another thriller.
What’s next for you?
I’m shooting a new film. It’s an original romcom – UNA FAMIGLIA PERFETTA.
TULPA is in official competition at Sitges Film Festival 2012
Labyrinth is broadcast on Channel 4 early 2013
