We loved the film, so we thought we would chat to its’ director, Neil Jones.
How are you guys? Busy? DVD Sales going well?
We’re doing really well and have had a great response from the launch of SNOTD. Our sales are better than we could have hoped for especially now we are launching on May 1st in the States.
Where did Stag Night of the Dead come from?
Out of nowhere, really. We were actually going to make straight Wicker Man type movie but then I got this idea about a stag party going to a Westworld type compound and threw in the great undead and I couldn’t shake it off.
Where did you find Sophie Lovell Anderson?! She’s amazing!
Sophie was a great find and offered the role straight after auditioning – it was no brainer. She had the moves and the looks..
What films/TV shows did you watch as you were making this?
I didn’t have much time to watch any movies in pre or post production but our influences were undoubtedly the aforementioned Westworld, An American Werewolf in London and the brilliant TV series The Prisoner from the 1960’s
What’s your favourite scene from the film?
Now that’s a tough one! My personal favourite is the hanger scene where the boys first meet Mr Ree and the rules of Zomball are introduced. Strangely enough, it was probably the most fraught to film due to running over and technical issues. The scene that gets the public vote is the fight in the forest with the kick to the zombie’s testicles. Even the hardest toughest critics (American Distributors) have burst out laughing at it.
Now the film is doing well, do you have any regrets?
Yes – I wish I’d fed the cast and crew better on set – big mistake! Note to all indie filmmakers – an army marches on its stomach.
What do you think of independent filmmaking in the UK at the moment?
I think there’s an amazing amount of talent out there that is scandalously under represented and under supported by the very film funding agencies that have been created to help foster them.
Anything else you want to talk about?!
Yes. If any of your readers who have got a spare $1M might want to contact us about our plans to create a studio just outside London just for indie productions, you know where to find us!
