Movies are created to entertain us. Trailers can be often misleading and we end up disappointed at how much the trailer is hyped up when there is just bits of pieces here and there. Furthermore, the plot is totally different from what see on trailers and from the movie itself. On the contrary, we also have quality action movies that not only stimulate the brain into thinking, it also provides quality entertainment surpassing all our expectations thereby leaving us spellbound. Here are some of the 5 action movies you cannot miss. If you are confused whether to watch a latest film currently starring on Oxford cinema listings or one of these, then I would advise you to go with the latter option :

1. Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight : The movie features everything you want in an action movie. Great action sequences, top notch actors, compelling storyline that revolves around real world social dilemmas are the movie’s strongest points. One scene involving two ferryboats with different kinds of people was one of the most controversial aspects of the movie. The movie won 2 Oscars during its entire run making it one of the best action movies ever made.

2. Peter Jackson’s The Lord Of The Rings : Return Of The King was an absolute action packed movie of the trilogy. Aside from having all the stories of each character converging into one, the movie represents the struggles of each character as they become what they were destined to be. The movie boasts larger than life CGI effects as well as breath taking scenes at exotic locations. The movie is top billed by Elijah Wood and Viggo Mortensen as well as a slew of fine actors.

3. Christopher Nolan’s Inception follows the story of Cobb played wonderfully by Leonardo DiCaprio who is able to infiltrate the minds of people his clients when he wants to and begins stealing valuable assets straight from their minds. But, complications begin to happen when one of his clients wants him to implant rather than steal ideas from his opponents’ mind all the while fighting his very best to keep his inner demons from taking over his mission. Critics have raved about the movie’s ability to peel between layers and layers of reality and an ending that has got the whole world talking about.

4. Wachowski Brothers’ The Matrix was released in the year 1999 and completely took the industry by storm with its never before seen special effects and action sequences that leave the audience wanting for more. The story has never been short of compelling as remnants of the human civilization fight against machines that have dominated both the real world and inside the Matrix as our heroes try to search for the only person who can defeat the machines.

5. Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill was an action art movie as some critics have claimed. It blends strong acting performance from Uma Thurman and a well delivered story of an assassin exacting revenge on her former cohorts who have murdered her and her unborn child. The movie derives itself from Japanese anime and delivers some good old Japanese-style gore and violence. For long time fans of Tarantino movies, this movie is one not to be missed.
