Filmhouse Edinburgh, the 13th Kinoteka Polish Film Festival and BFI Southbank are delighted that that the first leg of ‘Martin Scorsese Presents: Masterpieces of Polish Cinema’ UK tour is now officially underway.  This major new film season runs throughout April and May at BFI Southbank and Filmhouse Edinburgh as part of the Kinoteka festival programme and tours UK cinemas through to September.

The Martin Scorsese Presents: Masterpieces of Polish Cinema series represents the first ever celebration of Polish cinema classics in the UK on such a large scale, bringing together 24 masterpieces chosen by Scorsese himself, including many undiscovered gems, all brilliantly restored and digitally remastered.

The season includes classic works from some of Poland’s most accomplished and lauded filmmakers such as Andrzej Wajda, Krzysztof Zanussi, Andrzej Munk, Jerzy Kawalerowicz, Wojciech J Has, Roman Polański, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Agnieszka Holland and others.

At a time when Polish cinema is in the spotlight given the international success of Paweł Pawlikowski’s Oscar and BAFTA winning Ida, this unprecedented season – given Scorsese’s seal of approval, reaffirms Poland’s position of influence in international film history, a cinematic legacy which leads directly to the critical acclaim and recognition for Ida.
