  • Daniel Radcliffe At BAFTA

    Daniel Radcliffe At BAFTA

Daniel Radcliffe recently popped into BAFTA HQ.  Here are six snippets of what he told them:

“If I feel the script is trying to emotionally manipulate the reader in a way I’m not feeling, that’s something I find pretty off putting.”

“I like that my job means I have to prepare something different each time. Every scene presents a different set of challenges.”

“You have to trust the director, trust the other actors you are with, give yourself over and be as emotionally open and available as you can.”

“The more challenging a scene is the more fun it is as well, because the more of my job I get to do.”

“Learn as much as you can about the type of actor you’d like to be…If you’re working on a film, always remember how lucky you are.”

“Most actors treat every job as if it’s going to be their last, because that’s the permanent fear we live in, but I think that’s a good attitude to have.”

  • The World’s End Pub Ads

    The World’s End Pub Ads

One London pub has been particularly inspired by the long-lost pals determination to complete their much fabled pub-crawl. The King and Queen pub in London’s Fitzrovia area have partnered up with Universal Pictures (UK) on a new advertising initiative for the film, which should serve as a spot of encouragement for their customers to keep at it.

It’s a first in movie advertising, and the film’s ringleader Gary King (Simon Pegg; Paul, Shaun of the Dead) will have his words of wisdom handily displayed where flagging punters need them most – at the bottom of their glass.

CJ Lewis, manager of The King and Queen commented: “Universal Pictures (UK) approached us to try out a new way to advertise on the bottom of glasses in the pub, where the message can’t be missed, and after seeing the character’s in The World’s End’s commitment to their pub crawl, we thought why not! It’s nice to be able to offer a bit of the determination we saw in the movie to our customers, in case they need a little extra encouragement on their night out. Although of course we do ask that they enjoy their alcohol responsibly! We’re looking at using the ads with all our drinks, so anyone that isn’t hitting the pints of beer will be able to enjoy the message too.”

  • IL BIDONE

    IL BIDONE

IL BIDONE, one of the most acclaimed films of the 1950s by legendary filmmaker Federico Fellini, will be released as part of Eureka Entertainment’s Masters of Cinema series in a Dual Format (Blu-ray & DVD) edition 30 December 2013.

Federico Fellini followed up his iconic breakthrough La strada with this brilliant drama – an unsparing look at the dog-eat-dog values of post war Italian society that nonetheless manages to navigate expertly between the lightly comic and the emotionally stark to become one of his richest, most moving works.

Il bidone [The Swindle] follows three small-time conmen – the ageing Augusto (Broderick Crawford), “Picasso” (Richard Basehart), and Roberto (Franco Fabrizi) – as they prey upon the poor and gullible for modest gains. However, once Augusto is unexpectedly reunited with his daughter, now struggling with her studies, the moral and emotional demands of his lifestyle begin to take their toll sooner than he had anticipated.

With its masterful set pieces and host of superb performances (including the director’s wife and muse Giuletta Masina), this forms the centrepiece of what has been termed Fellini’s “Trilogy of Loneliness” (with bookending films La strada and Le notti di Cabiria), and may be the darkest examination of human nature he ever attempted. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present this long-undervalued classic in a new high-definition restoration.
