  • Mamiwata: The Evil African Mermaid

    Mamiwata: The Evil African Mermaid

Mamiwata, based on true events, is the first horror movie from Gabon Films, a California based movie production company. It is written by Chris Ferrantino, and will be directed by Danielle Fisher and Jordan Best.

Mamiwata is a paranormal thrilling, creepy horror tale that brings the audience into the heart of the African wilderness.  There, four American students and their professor, searching for Iboga,  a potential cure to drug addiction, unwittingly unleash the wrath of the evil Mermaid called Mamiwata. You can find more about the movie at www.mamiwatafilm.com

Mamiwata is a water goddess, highly venerated all over Africa.  Countless countries have followers of Mami Wata, who claim to have had encounters with this powerful mermaid, who has the ability to heal and punish. No Hollywood movie has ever been made about this African mermaid.  This is why the filmmakers were determined to bring this legend to a worldwide audience for the first time. The movie will be shot in the heart of the Gabonese jungle in central Africa, so everything is set to create an authentic scenery for this original story.

  • Man Up

    Man Up

Principal photography began on MAN UP, a romantic comedy about taking chances and rolling with the consequences. One night, two people, on a first date like no other…

MAN UP stars SIMON PEGG (The World’s End) and LAKE BELL (In a World), the additional cast includes Rory Kinnear (Broken), Olivia Williams (Hyde Park on Hudson), Sharon Horgan (‘Pulling’), Harriet Walter (Atonement), Ken Stott (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) and Stephen Campbell Moore (The History Boys). MAN UP is directed by Ben Palmer (The Inbetweeners Movie) and written by Tess Morris.

The forthcoming comedy is a BIG TALK PICTURES production and will be distributed by STUDIOCANAL in the UK. MAN UP is produced by Nira Park and James Biddle with executive producers Matthew Justice, Simon Pegg, Rachael Prior, Dan Cheesbrough, Danny Perkins, Jenny Borgars, Christine Langan and Joe Oppenheimer. The film is financed by STUDIOCANAL and BBC FILMS. Shooting will take place in London over the next six weeks.

Meet Nancy (Lake Bell): 34, single (still), hung-over (again), and exhausted by the endless futile set ups foisted upon her by well-meaning but clueless friends. As she travels across London to toast another 10 years of her parent’s blissfully happy marriage, 40 year old, freshly-hatched divorcee Jack (Simon Pegg) mistakes her for his 24 year old blind date. In a moment of uncharacteristic optimism (or insanity?), Nancy decides to just go with it… What follows is a chaotic, unconventional, hilarious night neither of them will ever forget. There will be drinking, there will be home truths; there will be an old classmate with a long-standing crush and stalker tendencies. There will be lost divorce papers, lost hopes, competitive indoor sports and an epic venue-to-venue urban triathlon. Oh, and the small matter of Jack finding out that Nancy isn’t actually his real blind date. MAN UP is a romantic comedy about being yourself… or perhaps not being yourself. It’s about taking chances, making decisions and rolling with the consequences.

Big Talk’s Nira Park says: “I’m delighted to get this exceptional script into production and with such an exciting cast, headed up by the hugely talented Lake Bell as Nancy and my long time collaborator, Simon Pegg as Jack. I fell in love with these characters from the first read, and I know audiences will as well. There is so much warmth, wit, and heart-breaking honesty in their uniquely modern love story – these are two very relatable characters, whose experiences have insulated them against the idea of a fairytale, happy ever after, who despite their disillusionment, stumble across it nonetheless.”

  • Frank Sidebottom – “Being Frank” Doc

Frank Sidebottom – “Being Frank” Doc

The remarkable life and career of one of the UK’s most extraordinary alternative comedians, Chris Sievey and his wayward alter-ego Frank Sidebottom, is the subject of Steve Sullivan’s definitive documentary Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story.

Chris Sievey was a Manchester performance artist, punk performer and stand-up comic who lived an elaborate double life. His most famous creation was Frank Sidebottom, with his huge papier-mâché head, but this was far more than an eccentric comedy performance. As long as the head was on, Chris transformed totally into Frank and the line between fiction and reality blurred. Very few people got to understand the man behind the mask, and sadly Sievey passed away in June 2010, however he left behind a fascinating and revealing legacy of artistic work that director Steve Sullivan is determined to preserve and celebrate.

Featuring interviews with family and colleagues including John Cooper Clarke, Jon Ronson, Ross Noble, Mark Radcliffe and Johnny Vegas, who all pay tribute to his innovative genius, the documentary also features exclusive, never-seen-before archival footage sourced from hundreds of hours of tapes from Chris’ personal collection as well as clips from his many legendary stage and TV appearances. For the first time his contemporaries discuss this innovative, wayward genius and attempt to explain why he chose to spend 28 years letting the fictitious Frank steal his limelight.

Being Frank will reveal for the first time Chris’ creative process through exclusive access to his diaries, notebooks and home movies, giving an insight into the inner workings of one of showbiz’s most complicated and daring performers. The film will also document Sievey’s pre-Frank career as part of late 70s Manchester punk band ‘The Freshies’.

The documentary’s release will coincide with the Jon Ronson-penned ‘Frank’, a fictionalised account of Sievey’s musical career based on journalist Jon Ronson’s time spent as a backing musician. Starring Michael Fassbender ‘Frank’ premiere’s this Friday at the Sundance Film Festival and will also be released at cinemas in May.

Being Frank is directed by award-winning filmmaker Steve Sullivan who collaborated with Chris Sievey on their Frank Sidebottom documentary ‘Magical Timerpley Tour’ in 2007. “This film is about preserving for future generations the memory of Chris Sievey’s extraordinary talent. The likes of his artistic endeavours had never been seen before, and probably never will again.” [Steve Sullivan]
