Away: The BRWC Review. By Hope Moore.
Wow. Gints Zilbalodis‘s Away film was a big treat! The film from my perspective has many layers and angles that could connect to an audience of any age or background. In my opinion, the film captures the journey of lost, fear, loneliness, desperation, solitude, death, bravery, connection, and the comfort of familiarity extremely well. Who hasn’t experience the unceasing roller-coasters of life, right? Well, the boy in this captivating film gets the ride of his life in only a short period of time.
His suspenseful journey of having a death or dark spirit lurking around him was heart-ponding. I thought it was quite interesting that while being chase from danger, he stumbles upon a living, peaceful, and isolated environment. His discovery leads him to making a connection to the inviting nature and meeting a friend that he didn’t realize he needed.
The wonders of this film is phenomenal and puts quite a spin on the universal topics of fear, isolation, loss, courage, and connection. It was amazing to see how the boy saves his furry pal from what would have been an unfortunate end, and in return the bird saves him from the same anticipated fate.
We see the boy’s courage of facing the dark spirit, his connection with his furry friend and his longing for connection with a turtle when his friend finally is strong enough to fly, his reunion with his friend, and the heartfelt moment of his reconnection to his own familiarity. The film’s ability to capture these emotions without dialogue and still caused me, as a viewer, to be on the edge of my seat is simply amazing. The boy’s fight and outstanding courage throughout the film is admirable and leaves me with sadness to see the ending credits.
Fantastic work to the creator and team and thank you greatly for allowing me to view this masterpiece! I would love to stay in the loop for the additional features mentioned above.
