Ryuichi Sakamoto (The Last Emperor) and Alva Noto to compose score for Alejandro G. Iñarritu’s epic adventure, The Revenant
Inspired by true events, The Revenant is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.
The film will be released in cinemas on January 15, 2016 by 20th Century Fox. The screenplay is by Mark L. Smith & Alejandro G. Iñárritu, based in part on the novel by Michael Punke. The producers are Arnon Milchan, Steve Golin, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Mary Parent, James W. Skotchdopole and Keith Redmon.
Sakamoto previously won an Academy Award for Best Original Score for THE LAST EMPEROR. His other credits include MERRY CHRISTMAS, MR. LAWRENCE, THE SHELTERING SKY, WOMEN WITHOUT MEN and LITTLE BUDDHA. Iñárritu previously used songs from Sakamoto’s original album “Bibo no Aozora” in his critically acclaimed film BABEL, but THE REVENANT marks their first collaboration. “I am thrilled to finally be working with Ryuichi” Iñárritu stated. “He is an incredibly unique talent and I have been a big admirer of his work for years.” Sakamoto commented: “I’ve been given the opportunity to work with perhaps the most influential director right now. I couldn’t be more honored.”
