    Wild Bill (EDIT – Trailer!)

A hit at the London Film Festival, where it screened to rave reviews, and nominated for Best Achievement in Production at the 2011 British Independent Film Awards, Wild Bill is Dexter Fletcher’s directorial debut from the producers Tim Cole (Everywhere and Nowhere) and Sam Tromans (Dead Man Running). Starring Charlie Creed-Miles (Hereafter, Harry Brown), Will Poulter (Son of Rambow), Liz White (The Woman in Black, Life on Mars) Andy Serkis (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Tintin), Jaime Winstone (Made in Dagenham, Anuvahood), Jason Flemyng (X-Men: First Class, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Olivia Williams (An Education, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll), Leo Gregory (Stoned, Tristan & Isolde), Iwan Rheon (Misfits) and newcomers Sammy Williams (Attack the Block) and Charlotte Spencer, this East London Western is aheartwarming, family-driven crime drama. Wild Bill premiered at San Sebastian where it was selected for the Euskaltel Youth Award, voted for by 350 delegates aged 17 to 25.

Out on parole after 8 years inside, Bill Hayward returns home to find his now 11 and 15-year old sons abandoned by their mother and fending for themselves. Unwilling to play Dad, his arrival brings them to the attention of social services. With the danger of being put into care looming, Dean forces his Dad to stay by threatening to grass him up for dealing. Dean soon connects with Jimmy and through this new bond starts to realize what he’s been missing. He has a family and a place in the world, but when Jimmy gets into trouble with Bill’s old cohorts, he quickly has to decide what kind of Dad he wants to be. A good one, or a free one.

Sounds pretty good. Here’s the trailer…

    Urban Explorers

    This sounds good…

The rapidly growing global phenomenon of urban exploration (also known as Urbex or UE), in which thrill-seeking enthusiasts explore the normally unseen or off-limits areas of towns, cities and industrial facilities, provides the unique background for director Andy Fetscher’s chilling survival-horror shocker, Urban Explorers, coming to DVD and Blu-ray on 5th March 2012 courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment. The winner of the Best Picture, Best Actor (Klaus Stiglmeier), Best Editing and Best Make-Up awards at LA’s prestigious Screamfest Horror Film Festival in 2011, Urban Explorers sees a quartet of young visitors to Berlin finding themselves trapped in a subterranean nightmare when they sign up for an illicit tour of city’s secret underground tunnels and wartime fortifications.

Hopefully get to review the film for you guys soon!

9 Movies That Never Should’ve Become Musicals

    Here’s one…

    9 To 5

Young people who aren’t familiar with the 1980 hit film starring Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin, and Jane Fonda as they try to overthrow their horrible boss are missing out. If they don’t know about the musical based on the movie, they’re pretty lucky. Sitting through it feels a bit like working a 9-to-5 job, trying to keep up with every set change and looking for a moment of peace and quiet. Parton took part in adapting the movie for the stage, but much like her hair and her breasts, the show is obviously overinflated. Even with a standout actress like Allison Janney in the lead role, the show flopped with its caricatures of the characters, campy, slapstick humor, and loud musical numbers.

    The rest are here.

    Little Joe/Little Film Club/Bigger Splash

Little Joe, a magazine about queers and cinema, mostly, will launch A Little Film Club, a monthly screening programme in London, supported by Film London’s new Community Pilot Fund Scheme.

A Little Film Club will alternate between The Cinema Museum in Kennington and the Rio Cinema in Dalston and develops the concept of the magazine into an unique space for the exhibition and discussion of films that inspire alternative discourse. Incorporating an eclectic programme of films mapping the subterranean queer canon of cinema, the screenings will also feature extended introductions, discussions and social events.

The programme begins with Jack Hazan’s A Bigger Splash, a unique insight into the world of David Hockney at the height of his fame during the 1970s, at the Cinema Museum on Tuesday 31 January. Little Joe is proud to welcome Jack Hazan who will be in conversation with Stuart Comer (Curator of Film at Tate Modern) following the screening.

Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London said: “Film London is delighted to support Little Joe’s screening programme via the new Community Pilot Fund. The fund is set up to allow us to support new and innovative community based projects that will extend the cultural film offer to audiences across the capital and we look forward to working with Little Joe to achieve this.”

Little Joe’s A Little Film Club is supported by Film London’s Community Pilot Fund through National Lottery Funding on behalf of the BFI.
