Justin Lin will partner with Bruno Wu: Chairman of Seven Stars Global Entertainment (SSGE), the parent company of Seven Stars Film Studios; and CEO of Harvest Seven Stars Media Private Equity Ltd (HSSMPEG) to create a slate of films.
This comes within weeks of the launch of the $800 million HSSMPEG which is looking to invest across two distinct areas: mergers and acquisitions; and content, and in addition will develop a marketing and distribution platform in all media. The creation of content is the purview of Seven Stars Film Studios with the resulting films, including those from Perfect Storm, being licensed by HSSMPEG for its distribution platforms.
Troy Craig Poon will serve as President of Perfect Storm Entertainment and creatively supervise the company’s efforts. The new company will focus on developing and producing, as well as financing a wide cross section of films that are intended to resonate with audiences worldwide. Special attention will be given to finding projects suitable as Chinese co-productions. Perfect Storm Entertainment aims to produce between 2 to 3 movies a year, varying from tentpole blockbusters to pedigreed specialized fare.
Justin Lin will bring his vast experience as both a blockbuster director (the last 3 installments of the extremely successful FAST franchise) and as an acclaimed independent film director (‘BETTER LUCK TOMORROW’, ‘FINISHING THE GAME’). Troy Craig Poon provides a long track record as an executive on numerous successful and profitable films (‘NAPOLEON DYNAMITE’, ‘JACKASS’, ‘JACKASS NUMBER TWO’, ‘THE ORIGINAL KINGS OF COMEDY’, ‘ELECTION’). Lin and Poon first worked together on the provocative Sundance hit ‘BETTER LUCK TOMORROW’ which Lin wrote and directed and Poon acquired while at MTV Films.
On making the announcement, Bruno Wu commented, “We are extremely pleased to be in business with Justin Lin. He is one of the most successful filmmakers of his generation and this collaboration illustrates our joint vision for investment in Asian filmed entertainment, which has international reach and synergy with our stakeholders.”
Justin Lin added “Perfect Storm Entertainment is an exciting new project for me and we are excited to seize upon creative opportunities to collaborate and produce films for audiences across all markets. The partnership with Seven Stars Film Studios and the Harvest Seven Stars Media distribution platform provides us with an amazing opportunity to consistently develop and create dynamic content.”
Perfect Storm will work closely with Barnstorm, Lin’s production company, which has a first look deal based at Universal.
This is the first of three high profile multi-million dollar collaborations with leading filmmakers to be consummated over the coming weeks by Seven Stars Film Studios.

Limbo is an original comedy that follows Luke’s stay in purgatory, a mysterious place that just so happens to look exactly like Croydon. After being checked in, he meets his new housemates, Jin, a bong smoking samurai from 17th century Japan, and Abby, a stunning backing dancer for a 90’s pop group. Before he has time to finish his first cup of tea, Luke witnesses a fight between the angel Israfel, and the demon Balam as they vie for Abby’s affections. Confused, exhausted, shocked and maybe a bit passively stoned, Luke must prepare himself for his (after)life in Limbo.
