  • BRWC Valentine: My Bloody Valentine 3D Review

BRWC Valentine: My Bloody Valentine 3D Review

    By Bex.

Wow, a 3D horror film. Now that’s what I’m talking about. This is not one for the fainthearted I have to admit it is pretty much a gore fest, but with a clever twist and a good story. Add to that the cast of beautiful people you have one hell of a horror film.

The 2009 3D version is a loose remake of the 1981 film of the same name using the characters’ name and setting it a mining town, oh and the use of a gas mask and pick axe.

My Bloody Valentine in 3D throws in bucketloads of blood, guts and gore. We’re wearing these stupid 3D glasses for a reason and that reason is to be scared shit less and for the best part of this film you are. It’s one hell of a ride. Beware, popcorn may be thrown over poor unsuspecting audience members in the rows ahead of you.

Firstly can I just say does Kerr Smith ever age ? I had not seen him in a film since Final Destination. He is now 36 and looks the same. I thought he played the part of rouge sheriff Axe Palmer really well; it was a love to hate part and the actor really pulled it off in my opinion.

The basic plot of the film is some miners are killed with a pick axe, there is only one survivor – Harry Warden – suspect number one I hear you ask, he is in a coma. The death of the miners is blamed on Tom Hanniger as he did not vent the lines. Now, not being a big mining expert I’m not too sure what than actually means LOL.

Fast forward to Valentine’s Day the following year and Harry Warden awakes from his coma and this is where it gets really good and really sick. Harry Warden goes a killing spree throughout the hospital – cue lots of blood and bodies jumping out the screen at you and blood being sprayed in your face, it is sure to make you a bit jumpy. Of course some stupid teenagers (of course in true slasher flick style played by 30 somethings) are having a party in the mine, of course isn’t that everyone idea of fun ? Harry Warden returns and takes the lives of several unsuspecting teens.

Cue the arrival of Kerr Smith (Axel Palmer) and Jensen Ackles (Tom Hanniger) and their girlfriends who escape the terror of Harry Warden. Who is apparently found dead in the mine after his teen killing spree.

Valentine’s Day approaches again (10 years in the future I think) and you guessed it the terrifying man in the gas mask is back, but Harry Warden is dead or is he ? This film had me guessing right up to the end, it was very cleverly thought out and shot and I really had no idea who the killer was. Maybe it was because I was so scared of lights been shined in my face and blood dripping over the people in front of me that I had no time to think about it. Prepare to buckle up, you’re in for one hell of a ride.

My Bloody Valentine in 3D pulls out all the stops and all the shock tactics from pick axes in faces to bodies being torn apart this is one 3D experience you won’t forget in a while. I came away from this film feeling relief. Not relief it was over but relief I don’t live in a mining town LOL.
