The Oscars: Outside Bets

film reviews | movies | features | BRWC The BRWC Review: La La Land

The Oscars noms are out, and it looks like one standout film is supposedly going to clean up.  That’s according to the critics and experts.  But I have recently seen Leicester City win the Premier League, The UK vote to leave the European Union, and Donald J. Trump become the President of the United States.

Sometimes it’s best to bet on an outsider, because you never know…  So bearing this in mind here are some picks where you should place a cheeky bet.

Best Film

It looks like La La Land will pick up this trophy, but I would love to see Moonlight win here.  I feel it has more to say, and it is superbly crafted and beautifully acted.  It may surprise many, but I wouldn’t be so shocked if Moonlight did nick this one.  I think with this year’s Oscars you can bet on there being a strong focus on diversity, telling different types of stories, highlighting different types of people.
