Semi Anthony Interview

From Modern Family to The Butchers and now Triumph, the world is ostensibly Semi Anthony’s oyster. We talk to one of the faces to watch in 2015.

I see you’re currently filming Fred Copeland’s new series Triumph. What is that?

Triumph is a night time soap opera about four college friends who are all on a mission to “be successful.” I play Isaac Taban from Africa who came to the US to learn medicine with the hope of returning to his country one day as a doctor to help his people. He relies heavily on his friends to help him with the daily struggles of the American way of life.

You’re probably best known for your work in TV. Do you prefer doing TV over film?

Not really, it’s just what I have gotten my hands on so far. I feel blessed to work in either avenue.

What was your first acting job when you came to Hollywood?

It was a live show by Shakespeare ” A midsummer night’s dream.”

What would you say your biggest acting job has been in Hollywood?

Most recently I guest starred on Modern Family  as Ndulu.

How did you get involved in producing?

I wanted to re-define history by changing what’s norm in Hollywood. I didn’t want to wait for Hollywood to come knocking on my door so I decided to go out and create my own work. You always have to be the man that owns the house!

The Butchers is coming out on DVD this December. What do you think of the name change from Death Factory to Butchers? Did you have any say in that?

My partners and I had the same voice so we made an executive decision to change the name. Plus our distributor said it would be more marketable in States.

You recently worked on an episode of Modern Family. Are those actors as great in real life as they are on the series!?

110%. On all the shows I’ve been on, Modern Family is by far the best! Dir: Fred Savage, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen and the kids are all such nice people…not to mention the entire crew.
