Las Vegas is an international gambling heaven and home of the set of the biggest casino movies. Casino movies are amongst some of the most action packed films of all time and are great to watch with your friends, family or by yourself.

Here are ten of the best casino movies of all time:



Casino 

Casino is a thriller based on the book by Nicholas Pileggi. With an all-star cast including Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci this is a must watch movie. Expect crime, gambling and an Italian mob. Not to mention a lot of violence. If you love Scorsese then add this film to your watch list!

Casino Royale 

If you haven’t heard of James Bond, then you cannot call yourself a movie lover. The original Casino Royale was produced in 1967 and starred the original 007, David Niven, was heavily criticized.  However this was one of the first casino movies ever made.

The 2006 adaptation starred Daniel Craig as secret agent Bond, James Bond. His mission, to defeat the enemy during a poker game at Casino Royale. This film features action, romance and a great plot. This makes for a great movie night, so get the popcorn on the ready.

Ocean’s Eleven 

Ocean’s Eleven is one of the greatest casino heist movies of all time. Starring George Clooney as Danny Ocean, he seeks help from his eleven friends to plan a heist. This is no ordinary heist, one that will take three Las Vegas casinos by surprise. This cast is one of fans all-time favourite with Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia and Julia Roberts.

The Cooler 

The cooler was made in 2003 by director Wayne Kramer and stars Alec Baldwin. This film is about a character, Bernie who is very unlucky at gambling. Most gamblers are superstitious and if you are winning you certainly do not want a “cooler” by your side. This film is a romantic drama that is great to watch with your partner. Find out if Bernie’s luck does change or if he remains a “cooler” for the rest of his life.

Croupier 

Croupier stars Clive Owen as Jack Manfred, a writer and a drunk.  Jack changes his career to become a croupier in a casino. Expect deception, rule breaking and cheating. Croupier set the stage for Clive Owen’s acting career.

Hard Eight 

Hard eight is a crime thriller starring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. Hoffman plays Jack, a young poor boy who has no prospects or money. When a veteran gambler sees him struggling, he helps him and under his tuition he becomes a gambler.  This film is full of stars including Gwyneth Paltrow and Samuel L. Jackson. The Hangover 

The hangover is one of the most recent films based in Las Vegas. Four friends embark on a casino resort to celebrate a bachelor party. Soaking up the various entertainment that Las Vegas has to offer. After a hard night of gambling, partying and drinking they wake up to find the groom to be missing. A great comedy starring Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis, this is a great film for all.

The Sting 

The sting is set in 1930’s. The story of a con man from Chicago who is seeking revenge, but what for? The murder of his partner. Expect a mixture of crime, comedy and drama, coupled with a plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Gambler 

The gambler is a crime filled drama, starring James Caan. His character has a gambling addiction and is determined to keep on gambling his money away. Blind to his gambling addiction, Caan continues to gamble money away until he has none left. This does not stop him and leaves him asking for friends and family for money until they refuse to give him anymore. See who he borrows money from to keep fuelling his addiction.

The Cincinnati Kid

The Cincinnati Kid was one of the earliest casino films along with the original Casino Royale. Released in 1965, Steve McQueen stars as a rising poker player trying to play with the pros. Things take a dramatic turn, which makes The Cincinnati Kid a must see classic.

These casino movies feature action, drama and a lot of explosions. Organise a theme night with your friends or even better a casino night. Ask your guests to dress up as characters from these films or casino workers.

    Casino Royale is one of my favorite movies. I adore all parts of the James Bond,however, this one is my favorite. As James I prefer to play Blackjack casino game. I think it develops the mathematical mind and the imagination.
